Canary
A language-learning app that teaches through the songs you love, with karaoke, quizzes and live practice with people.
What it is
Canary lets learners pick up a language from songs, for example French or Spanish tracks, with lyrics and translation, karaoke practice, vocabulary cards and AI training, plus practice with other learners. It is freemium with a $10 a month or $79 a year subscription. Ben Guez runs it solo and says he grew it from a viral singing video.
How it was built with AI
Ben Guez told Starter Story he is not a developer and had never written a line of code, and that about four months before the interview he started vibe coding, which sped up shipping features. His stack list names Claude for vibe coding (about $200 a month) and OpenAI for the in-app AI features; the first MVP took roughly a month.
